Melanie Janine Brown was born on 29th May 1975 in Leeds, England.
Her Mother is English and her Father is black.
As part of the Spice Girls she reached Number 1 in 1996 with the debut track "Wannabe".
Their debut album, Spice, shot to number one all over the globe, including America.
In 1998 Mel worked with Missy Elliott on the single "I Want You Back"
which is classed as her only solo UK number 1 hit.
On 9th October 2000 Mel released
her first solo album, "HOT". The album sold 8,000 copies in its first week. To date, the album has sold about 50,000 copies in the UK.
In 2002, Brown released her autobiography, Catch A Fire, reaching number 7 in the official books chart
